The Hunt for Red October
Sean Connery played the part of Captain Marko Ramius in the movie “The Hunt for Red October”. He originally declined the part because he thought the setting of the movie occurred after Gorbachev came to power in Russia and Klaus Maria Brandauer was cast in the part. However, Connery changed his mind when he realized that the events in this movie take place before that.
Accent Problems
He really got into the part of the Russian captain even down to wearing his wedding ring on his right hand, as is the custom in Russia . During the filming, he declined the offer of a ride in an actual submarine, which means that none of this film was actually shot underwater. Sean Connery's Scottish accent really came through in the movie causing his part to receive the vote of the “Worst Movie Accent of All Time” as he tried to put a Russian twist on it.
Did Connery play the part of a mad captain?
In this movie, the captain is actually thought to be mad by his superiors in Moscow , but is actually hatching a plan to defect to the West. This is the perfect role for Connery and is one that he plays quite often in movies – that of a crafty person who knows how to get around those in power. This movie is one of his masterpieces.
Connery plays his role of the Russian captain in The Hunt for Red October will superb skill. He was very professional in his acting, even to speaking the Russian language for some of the scenes. |
